Stephen H. Solomson practices in the areas of litigation, defense of professional licenses, securities law, insurance defense including coverage, as well as family and divorce law.
Attorney Solomson started his law career as a legal intern in the Prosecutor’s Office in Hartford. Upon graduation from law school he entered state service as a Public Defender trying numerous jury trials in Hartford Superior Court. He later became a prosecutor, serving as the head of the Economic Crime Unit of the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office, an award-winning unit comprised of prosecutors and investigators with statewide jurisdiction charged with the investigation and prosecution of white collar crime. During his tenure at the Economic Crime Unit, Attorney Solomson and his staff prosecuted hundreds of matters ranging from widespread home improvement frauds, embezzlements, insurance, financial and securities fraud. While at the Economic Crime Unit, Attorney Solomson and his staff worked closely with many State and Federal Agencies including the Connecticut Insurance and Banking Departments, the Department of Consumer Protection, the United States Postal Inspectors, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. After state service, Attorney Solomson was employed by Commercial Union Insurance Company, where he was responsible for insurance fraud investigations nationwide.
Drawing upon this foundation, over the past 30 years Attorney Solomson has built a thriving litigation practice representing individuals and businesses in front of these same agencies with regard to regulatory compliance and defense of their professional licenses. Attorney Solomson advocates for professionals working in insurance, real estate, accounting, health care, nursing home, legal, accounting, daycare and other regulated fields. He has successfully represented professionals involved with issues at the Connecticut Insurance Department, the Connecticut Department of Health, the Connecticut Banking Department, Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, FINRA, and the SEC. His experience includes litigating licensing matters at the Agency level and in the Superior Court, as well as successfully negotiating settlements and Consent Orders for his clients.
Attorney Solomson also has extensive experience representing clients in the securities field. As a white collar crime prosecutor, Attorney Solomson investigated securities fraud and regulatory violations. Both as a prosecutor and in private practice, cases that he has tried have helped to shape the development of Connecticut securities law. (For example, State v. Kreminski, 178 Conn. 145; and Presidential Capital v. Reale, 231 Conn. 500, a case involving a dispute over commissions in connection with the financing of a hotel/casino complex in the Caribbean.) Attorney Solomson represents individuals and broker-dealers involved in licensing issues with various regulatory bodies. He has litigated customer complaints and matters involving licensing issues at the FINRA, State and Federal levels. For many years, he has been a member of the Securities Advisory Council to the Connecticut Department of Banking, the group that assists the department in shaping legislative changes to the Connecticut Uniform Securities Act. He is a frequent speaker at seminars relating to securities issues.
Attorney Solomson also has an extensive background in insurance defense, including coverage matters, advising insurance companies regarding the scope of their responsibilities under a broad range of policies, including CGL, professional liability, E&O, liquor liability, homeowners, D&O, and excess/umbrella policies.
Attorney Solomson regularly achieves positive results for clients involved in litigation, mediation, and arbitration for insurers in declaratory judgment actions, bad faith claims, and unfair trade and insurance practice claims.
Finally, Attorney Solomson is an integral part of O’Connell, Attmore & Morris’ family law department. He is a trained mediator, which skills he uses both as a litigator and in assisting parties to resolve their disputes privately. He represents clients in dissolution actions, with regard to post-judgment issues, and complex custody matters.
Attorney Solomson is a graduate of Providence College and of the University of Connecticut Law School, where he was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in Conflicts of Law. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association,
